About the work
Through the years, water as a medium and power of nature has always guided the paintings in one way or another. Most recently, it is prominent as the paintbrush itself and the history it reveals in layers of fluid color. The work encompasses universal patterns at work in us all, in the world seen and unseen, in our very bodies. The force of expansion and the spaces stretched and compressed by it continue to take the stage. I am inviting the ultimate play of matter and energy
( and the hint of something larger giving rise to it ) on the canvas. The collaboration with the painting ground is surprisingly important. Whether canvas, fabric, or paper, the base material starts the conversation of water moving the paint over it to create patterns. In front of the canvas, how do I show up as a tool in the process? With humility, for starters.
About me
I have painted my entire life and was encouraged as a young one. I consider myself fortunate to have come from creative and supportive parents. I attended undergraduate school in the mountains of North Carolina and got my MFA from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
